The pie charts provide the mean percentages of the consumption of three nutrients in certain meals in the USA. Overall, people tend to receive all three nutrients in almost the same proportion for breakfast. Meanwhile, a similar pattern is found between lunch and dinner. Unsurprisingly, sweetness is a greater option for snacks than other flavors.
Starting with the first meal of the day, saturated fat and sugar are consumed mostly by 16%, followed closely by sodium with the share of 14%.
Moving on to the other two meals, people are more likely to choose salty food over greasy and sweet ones. However, there are notable differences in each meal. Interestingly, sodium, the most popular supplement, is consumed 43% in dinner and 29% at lunch, which is considered a significant difference, as well as saturated fat that slightly differs from that of sodium. Conversely, sugar holds the lowest percentage of nutrients consumed during lunch and dinner.
Finally, although there are many types of snacks out there in the market, people seem to enjoy having snacks with added sugar instead of ones that contain sodium or saturated fat with the highest proportion of 42% of snacks devoured by people consisting of sugar.
