Both marriage rates and divorce rates had a very similar pattern over the period. At the beginning of the period, these two figures recorded the lowest respectfully, which were 1.3 millions for the amount of marriages and 900 thousands for the amount of divorces. It is notable that both figures rose from 1930 to 1950, and also declined from 1960 to 1980. After 1980, they increased every decades untill 2010, which marked the most married and divorced, respectfully.
However, it is noted that their trends were different only between 1950 and 1960. Marriage amounts fell from 2.4 millions in 1950 to 1.9 millions in 1960, while divorce amounts climbed from 400 thousands in 1950 to 600 thousands in 1960. Moreover, total divorces largely fluctuated between a low of 190 thousands in 1930 and a high of over 1 millions in 2010, whereas total marriages only ranged from 1.3 millions to 3.6 millions.
Overall, both marriages and divorces in USA augmented between 1930 and 2010.
