Overall, both number of marriages and divorces increased in 2010 compared to in 1930. The number of total marriages increased more than in divorces.
From 1930, total marriages increased from 1.3 millions to over 1.5 millions in 1940, and then gradually rose to almost 2.5 millions. Then, from 1960, 1970 to 1980, the graph experienced a moderately drop almost to 2 millions, 1.7 millions and 1.4 millions respectively. In the last 20 years, the graph rocketed from 1.4 millions to 1.9 millions, 2.8 millions and 3.7 millions respectively each decades.
In the graph represented the number of total divorces, from 1930 to 1960, it witnessed a steadily jump from 195 thousands to 600 thousands. Then it plummeted to 350 millions and slightly decreased at 300 millions in 1980. Later on, in the last 30 years, it showed a same trends from 1930 to 1960, remarkably increased and reached the peak at 1100 thousands in 2010.
