The pie charts illustrate the distribution of electricity consumption in Eastern Australia across different sectors in 2007 and 2010.
Overall, it is clear that together residential and commercial constituted more than half of the total consumption, while transport and agriculture had the smallest shares in both years.
To begin with, residential electricity usage remained the largest category, accounting for 28% in both 2007 and 2010. Similarly, the commercial sector proportion stayed unchanged at 23%. In addition, transport and agriculture had the smallest shares, at just 1% each both years. The proportion of electricity used by mining also stayed unchanged at 9%.
The proportion of electricity consumption by other metals rose significantly from 12% to 18%. In contrast, in 2007, the remaining 26% is distributed among aluminium and manufacturing at 13% each, while the figures declined to 11% and 9% respectively in 2010.
