From an overall perspective, it is clear that young people mainly use social networking and entertainment, while older users focus on practical activities such as researching information and making bookings.
For young adults, social networking is the largest percentage of online time, at 24%, followed by accessing music and films (21%), whereas the biggest share among older adults is making booking, at 25% and researching information at 22%. Additionally, young adults spending time on researching information is just one-fifth of the internet activities, a similar percentage with seniors who consume on social networking.
Moreover, teenegers use 18% of their time to play online games, although the older group spend only 15% on accessing music and film. Both groups devote 12% of their internet use to making purchases, making this the only category with identical figures. The least popular activity for younger people is making bookings, at just 5%, while for older users, playing games is the lowest, also at 5%.
