Overall, education attracted the highest share of volunteers in 2008, while environmental and sports organizations became more prominent by 2014. Health care consistently remained the sector with the lowest level of volunteer participation in both years.
In 2008, educational organizations accounted for the largest percentage of volunteers at 24%. Environmental groups followed with 21%. Art and sports organizations had similar proportions, each receiving around 15% to 18% of volunteers, while health care recorded the lowest figure, at 7%.
By 2014, the percentage of volunteers in education had dropped noticeably to 17%. In contrast, sports experienced a significant rise, increasing from 15% to 25%, becoming the most popular sector. Environmental volunteering also grew slightly, reaching 22%. Participation in art organizations declined moderately, and health care showed only a small increase from 7% to 8%.
Overall, the data shows a shift in volunteer interest from education towards sports and environmental activities over the six-year period.
