The bar charts present the proportion of individuals total expenditure on different commodities and services in a particular European country in 1958 and 2008.
Overall, in 1958 most of the expenditure went to food and the least amount to luxury goods. However, in 2008 the most money went to housing and the category entertainment decreased slightly resulting in the least proportion of spending.
In 1958, 32% of the total spending went to food, followed by 22% for housing. Altough clothing was only 18%, entertainment was slightly less with 13%. Furthermore, travel/transport and luxury goods were close to each other with 8% and 7% respectively.
Turning to 2008, the expenditure on food declined dramatically to only 12%. On the other hand, the spending on housing increased significantly with 10%. Luxury goods and travel/transport both grew to 17%, whereas the proportion of money to clothing declined with just 2% to 16%. In addition, less people spent money on entertainment: this category fell from 16% to only 6%.
