The two pie charts compare the percentages of energy produced from various sources in a country in 1985 and 2003.
Overall, oil accounted for the largest share of energy production in both years, although its share fell considerably over the period. Hydrogen was the only source that remained unchanged. While the proportion of energy generated from nuclear power decreased, the figures for natural gas, coal, and other renewable sources showed an increase.
In 1985, oil production was at 52% rate before dropping significantly to 39% in 2003.The proportion of energy generated from nuclear power also declined from 22% to 17%. And hydrogen production maintained the same proportion at 4% both in 1985 and 2003.
Coal showed the same percentage figure at 13% in 2003 as natural gas in 1985, while the proportion of natural gas rose to 23% in 2003. Other renewable sources demonstrated the lowest rate at 1% in 1985 and later, in 2003 it was the same as hydrogen.
