The graph illustrates the destinations of UK graduates and postgraduates (excluding full-time employment) in 2008.
Overall, it is clear that further studies was the most common choice for both groups, while voluntary work was the least popular. Additionally, the number of graduates was significantly higher than the post graduates in all categories.
Looking first at graduates, nearly 30,00 students (29,665) choose to continue their education, making it the most preferred option. Part-time work was the second most common destination, with approximately 17,735 individuals. In comparison, unemployment accounted for around 16,235 graduates, while only 3,500 opted for voluntary work.
Turning to postgraduates, a similar pattern can be observed, although the figures were much lower. Further study again ranked first, with about 2,725 students, followed closely by part-time work at 2,535. Meanwhile, 1,625 postgraduates were unemployed, and voluntary work was the least common choice at just 345. Notably, each figure for postgraduates was considerably lower than the corresponding number of graduates.
