The bar charts illustrate the amount of time spent on two leisure activities- reading and listening to music- by different age groups in New Zealand.
Overall, people aged over 55 spent more time on both activities compared to the younger age groups. While the teenagers from 15 to 24 years spent significantly less time reading.
Regarding the reading activity, people aged over 55 devoted nearly 70 minutes per day (MPD) of their leisure time, followed by those aged 35-44 to 45-54, who spent approximately 45 and 50 MPD, respectively. In contrast, the figure for younger age groups was relatively lower, particularly under 35 MPD, especially the people aging from 15-24 had only one third of the time spent by people aged over 55.
On the other hand, the figures for listening to music were generally higher than those spent on reading. People over 55+ again spent the most time listening to music with over 70 MPD. However, the figure of individuals from 15-24 enjoying this hobby topped the chart, averaging 80 MPD. Groups aged 25-34 and 45-54 spent the same amount of time on reading, with 60 MPD, while only 45 MPD for individuals 35-44 listening to music for relaxation.
