The given pie charts compare six most popular sectors, namely sport, health care, environment, art, education and others, that individuals wanted to volunteer in two years, 2008 and 2014. Overall, environmental organizations were the most popular choice for volunteers in both years. Additionally, the share of the sports sector in 2008 increased significantly, making it the second biggest area in which many people worked for free in 2014.
Focusing on the increases first, the figure for environmental organizations accounted for 21% in 2008, followed by the sports sector with 15%. And both followed a rise, with the former accounting for 29%, making it the most common organization that a lot of people volunteered and the latter 25% in 2014. The health care sector showed 7% in the initial year, after which a slight increase was seen in it with 8%, making it the least chosen sector in 2014.
Despite showing the highest share 24% in 2008, the percentage of educational organizations declined considerably to 17% in volunteering, followed by art that saw a gradual decrease from 18% in 2008 to 12% in 2014. Other unspecified sectors also witnessed a dip by 6%, from 15% to 9% in 2014.
