The first line graph compares between the amount of rice which was consumed and is expected to be consumed in a particular nation over a 50- year period starting from 1990. While the second chart shows the consumption of rice compared to other food crops within the same period.
Overall, even though there were no significant increases in rice consumption or production in the past, both figures are forecasted to increase dramatically. In addition, other food crops have been consumed lower than rice, but the consumption of both products are expected to be equal in the future.
In terms of rice production and consumption, in 1990 25 million tons of rice were produced, while the rate of consumption was higher than production ( just under 40 million ) . Until 2015 the figures for consumption rate had increased by around 15 million tons and both consumption and production rate equalled. It is expected that the amount of rise will keep a rise markedly almost 15 million tons until 2040 compared to 1990 . Similarly, the rice consumption is expected to grow dramatically around 65 tons.
Regarding the second chart, in 1990 the other crops demand was higher than rice and food crops making up just over half and rice just under. In contrast the following 10 year period, the rice consumption was higher compared to other crops reaching 75%. This disparity grew to a ratio of 4 to 1 by 2020 and the rate of rice consumption was almost at 80 %. Regardless of this past trend favoring rice , it is forecasted in both rice and food crop will be used in equal amounts making up half in each.
