The given charts illustrate the comparison of rice production and consumption in X country. While the first chart compares rice production and consumption in million tons from 1990 to 2040, the second chart compares rice and other food crops consumed in that country. Generally speaking, it is apparent that rice production increased markedly during this period. Furthermore, rice consumption consistently rosed sharply between 2000 and 2020.
It is explicitly observed that in the first chart, rice production jumped dramatically from approximately 25 million tons in 1990 to nearly 75 million tons at the end of the period. Conversely, rice consumption from 1990 to 2020 maintained a steady level at about 35 million tons. However, it is clear that rice consumption will have been expanding slightly from roughly 35 million tons to nearly 60 million tons by 2040.
In addition, in the second chart, the percentage of rice consumption in 1990 tended to be lower than the percentage of other food crops consumption. Nevertheless, rice consumption between 2000 to 2020 had a tendency to increase moderately from approximately 75 percent to nearly 85 percent, respectively. Other food crop consumption witnessed an opposite trend, starting at nearly 50 percent and gradually decreasing between 2000 to 2020. Moreover, the consumption rate of rice and other food crops will be balanced in 2040.
