The presented diagrams illustrate how West Park Secondary School has transformed over a period of 60 years since its establishment in 1950.
In the beginning, the school had only one building, the main building, which was located to the right of the houses. Behind it, a large area was occupied by farmland, which was adjacent to the school grounds of a similar size.
Due to the surge in the number of available cars, by 1980, houses on the territory adjacent to the school had been demolished to make way for a science block to be added to the school, with the remaining part of the territory being converted into a car park. At the same time, the farmland became the property of the school and was transformed into a sports field.
Looking at the school in 2010, the only marked change that occurred was the extension of the car park that occupied almost half of the total area of the school. As a result, the size of the playground had to be reduced to provide space for physical activities.
In conclusion, the changes described above are likely to have taken place to accommodate the significant increase in student numbers since the university was founded in 1950, and possibly due to population growth and development in the area.
