The process illustrates how to build an igloo from snow.
Overall, the way of building an igloo is rather straightforward, including 5 steps, beginning with preparing blocks from a raw material, and, before giving the final touch, making an entrance.
In the first step, blocks from hard snow have to be prepared with the help of a special tool, snow saw. They must be cut into specific measurements: 15, 3 and 8 inches, creating figures similar to cubes. Large blocks are necessary to create the base of the igloo. For the very top of the home, a block that is bigger than the other ones must be prepared to finish the building.
After finishing the preparations, the edges of the blocks have to be smoothen. Afterwards, the blocks are put in a circle, moving upward. To enter the igloo at this step of the process, a hole under the wall should be dug to create an entrance. Then, after finishing putting blocks on their places, loose snow is used to fill all crevices, so the walls are stronger and do not let the wind enter. The walls of the igloo should be smoothen by hand in the inside. After shoving out extra snow, it is time for the final touch. A hole in the wall should be dug for the desired entrance, and then the hole is covered with snow blocks, creating a little roof for it.
