The diagram provides the way the Australian Bureau of Meteorology gathers up-to-date weather knowledge to generate reliable forecasts.
Overall, it is evident that there are four stages involved in the process of producing weather forecasts.
Initially, the bureau gathers data from three different sources: satellites, radar, and drifting buoys, which operate in the air, on the ground, and in underwater, respectively. After collecting the data, the bureau analyses it in three distinct ways. Satellite data is processed into satellite photos, radar information is displayed on radar screens, and data from drifting buoys is reviewed in synoptic charts.
Following the data analysis, the bureau prepares broadcasts based on the information obtained from these sources, in accordance with the data from satellites, radar, and drifting buoys. Finally, the bureau uses three diverse vehicles to inform the public: TV newsreaders, radios, and recorded announcements.
