The diagram demonstrates the various stages in gathering the latest information on weather of Australian Bureau of Meteorology to prepare a dependable forecast.
Overall, there are five distinct steps, starting with incoming information, analysis and forecasting, preparing and concluding with the public broadcast.
At first, raw data will be collected by three popular recorders: satellite, radar and drifting buoy. In the analysis and forecasting step, engineers will receive information as satellite photo, radar screen or synoptic chart. Satellite is the most useful tool, which is able to display information in the form of a photo, screen or chart, while a drifting buoy can just present the last.
In the following steps, the computer supports decision-making by refining the information and preparing the forecast. The processed information will be interpreted as broadcast and brought to the audience through TV newsreader, radio and record announcement.
