The diagram illustrates a region around the Back Stone River prior to and following a flood. Many things were washed away by the floodwaters.
Prior to the flood, the river has a bend and next to the bend has the vacant lot called Oxbow. The area around both places has a lot of trees and a few houses. Near the end of the river there are some houses and the bridge across the river.
But following the flood, the river was split into a straight section and the bend was cut into a separate C shape. The surrounding trees were washed away. The vacant lot next to the bend was also turned into a lake called Oxbow. Not far away at the end of the river, the houses and the bridge across the river disappeared as if they had never existed. The impact of the flood on the Blackstone River was truly devastating.
