The diagrams depict the changes that have taken place in a particular area between 1965 and the present day.
Overall, it is clear that the area has undergone significant urban development, with the replacement of natural and rural features by modern infrastructure. However, while the ferry and trees have disappeared, new facilities such as bridges, car parks, and apartment buildings have been introduced to accommodate urban expansion.
In 1965, the area was relatively undeveloped, consisting mainly of a small number of houses in Assford on the eastern side of the river, a ferry for crossing, and a few trees to the west near the road. The transportation connection between the two sides of the river was limited to the ferry service.
At present, the ferry has been replaced by a road bridge, which now connects Assford with the newly established city area on the opposite side. Additionally, a footbridge has been constructed slightly to the south of the main bridge, providing pedestrian access. Several car parks have been built – one near the city, another close to Assford, and one further south. Moreover, the residential zone has expanded significantly with the construction of numerous new houses and several apartment blocks, replacing the trees that once occupied the area.
