The bar chart provides information about the proportions of the population in given four Asian countries living in cities during 1970 and 2020, with predictions from 2030 to 2040.
Overall,it is noticeable that all four countries witnessed increase,regardless variations, in the percentage of population in cities, Malaysia showed the most dramatic increase, while being the most city populated Asian country.
From 1970 to 2020,Indonesia and Malaysia experienced a great increase in their urban population from about 30% to 80% and about over 10% to 60% respectively.Moreover, the data shows that these two countries are likely to grow around 80% for Malaysia and approximately 60% for Indonesia during projections for 2030 and 2040.
Meanwhile, Thailand rose from below 20% to around 30% during 1970 and 1990.Despite that it remained relatively stable through the next 30 years,it increased steadily to just below of 40% in 2030.With predictions, this upward trend is likely to continue.As regards Philippines’ proportion of urban population, it increased from around 30% in 1970 to approximately 50% by 1990.Although it decreased gradually to just above 40%, it saw an upward trend since 2010, and estimated to reach the peak of around 50% by 2040.
