The plans show how the central library changed from 20 years ago to the present day. Overall, the central library was completely redeveloped. The large spaces previously used for specific purposes were replaced by new facilities such as a lecture room, café, computer room, and an area for storytelling events with children’s fiction books. Also, these new areas are generally larger than the old ones.
On the left side of the library, several changes happened. First, the size of the main room increased by taking space from what used to be adult fiction books. This new, larger space now houses all reference books. Second, the computer zone and reading room switched places, and the previous reading room area is now shared by a stand for children’s fiction books, a storytelling event area, and two sofas. Third, the entrance to one of the rooms was moved.
On the right side, the areas that were previously used for children’s books and the enquiry desk have been replaced by a lecture room and a café, respectively. The lecture room is larger than the old children’s book area. In addition, the shelves with adult non-fiction books were changed to adult fiction book shelves, and information desks and self-service machines were added to the space that was freed up. Finally, the tables and chairs in the center of the library were removed.
