The maps describe the developments that took place in Sawry District over a century (1920-2020).
Overall, Sawry District underwent significant changes: with the addition of new amenities; construction of new structures and modification of existing ones. Noticeably, the district developed into more urbanized area.
In 1920, Sawry was an industrialized zone having a factory named Tulebug Bros. Cannery in the northwestern part of the district. There was a beach by the river Elmwood to the south of which was occupied by some houses and green area. Southern part of the district was more residential area with Prestwich Primary School, houses and a shop which situated next to the Oak Avenue in a row.
Considering changes till 2020, Tulebug Bros. Cannery was replaced by Yang Office Complex. A street stretched from Oak Avenue was extended beyond the Elmwood river with the construction of a bridge. A cycling path that was established along the river became another facility with the destruction of the beach. Building new apartments increased the number of accommodation. Southern part of the district included new facilities like Lonoco Petrol Station, modern living places and more shops along Oak Avenue. Prestwich Primary School moved to a woodland to the east of Miller’s Lake.
