The maps above illustrate some notable changes that have happened in the Sawry District neighborhood since 1920 and 2020.
In 1920, there wasn’t much development in the Sawry District neighborhood. There were only a few residential houses, a cannery factory, and a primary school building in the whole area. The lake and the factory were dominated by nature.
Then, in 2020, there are some new constructions were built that can be seen from the map. A new bridge on the Elmwood River, a Lonoco petrol station that is located south of Oak Avenue, one additional shop next to the old shop, and two apartment buildings which are located west of the shops.
Other changes also include the missing beach, the decline of trees, and the decreasing number of total houses that were seen in 1920.
In conclusion, compared with the previous map, the rapid development has changed the southern area of Sawyer District. It became more crowded. There was no more factory but it was transformed into Yang Office Complex, and the Prestwich Primary School also has been relocated into a new location and the size of it is more massive than before.
