The three distinct maps illustrate the developments that happened at Queen Mary Hospital every two decades up to the year 2000, since it was built in 1960. During this period, multiple major changes taken place.
In 1960, the initial layout featured a shopping centre facing the main road, next to the Queen Mary Hospital. A farmland was situated at the corner, in between the shopping centre and a car park.
Between 1960 and 1980, several notable changes occurred in the surroundings of the hospital. The hospital remained at its original location, but a pharmacy was added next to it. Additionally, almost half of the shopping centre was converted to accommodate the new cancer centre. One of the most significant changes was the construction of a nursing school beside the car park, which replaced what used to be a farmland.
Furthermore, in 2000, the cancer centre almost tripled in size, hence compound for the nursing school and car park shrunk by half. However, the pharmacy and hospital still maintained its initial layout maps alongside the main road.
