This graph demonstrates the life cycle of salmon. In general adult salmon live for about 5 years. There are four main stages of salmon life- eggs, fry, smolt and finally adult salmon.
Salmon lays eggs in the upper river, usually the eggs are located between the reeds near the stones. The estimated time of development of eggs in phase 1 is about 5-6 months. The step involving small fry hatch from the eggs, their body length is about 3-4 sm. In the phase of transformation from fry in smolt, they move to places with a calmer current where they grow for 5 years and up to 12-15 sm. By this stage develops and becomes an adult. The size of a large salmon reaches from 70 to 76 cm and they live for about 5 years in the open sea.
In total, salmon live an average life where half of them develop from fry to adult fish. Throughout all 4 stages of life, they adapted to to change their habitats, based on their age. While their bodies reach their maximum size, they are already ready to swim freely.
