The diagrams illustrate the present layout of a university’s biomedical campus and its planned transformations in the future.
Overall, the campus will undergo significant changes, including the construction of new facilities and the renovation of original ones. Notably, various green spaces will be removed for these developments despite the maintenance of some buildings.
At present, the campus is divided into two halves by a west-to-east road in the center. The northern half has an open green space with trees, adjacent to the car park, and bordered by a road. The southern half is further separated into two by the middle walkway, which runs to the south. The area to the west of the walkway has a biochemistry department, while the eastern half has a biotechnology and genetics department. Both these zones also have a lab.
In the proposed plan, most areas will be rearranged. The green space will be narrowed and replaced by a certain proportion for the surrounding bio-imaging and genetics 1 areas. The west-to-east road will be demolished and the north road will be reconstructed to run along the west side. The extended biochemistry building will be parallel to an additional branch leading to the car park for staff, with the removal of the plants, while the lab in front of it will remain unchanged. In addition, the biotech area in the east is also expected to expand horizontally, facing the genetics 2 building, and the other lab remaining the same in the western section.
