The first line graph illustrates the amount of train passengers between 2000 and 2009, while second depicts the trains are on schedule and target in the period.
Overall, while the number of passengers fluctuated over decade, and then picked by the middle of the period in 2005, the punctuality rate of trains showed rise, a sharp decline, and then a significant recovery.
In terms of passenger numbers, the figure stood at around 38 million in 2000. It increased steadily to about 43 million by 2002 before dropping to 38 million in 2003. The highest point was reached in 2005 with roughly 48 million passengers, after which the numbers gradually declined to 39 million in 2008. A slight recovery occurred in 2009, ending the period at approximately 42 million.
As for train punctuality, about 92% of services were on time in 2000, which was below the standard target of 95%. The percentage rose steadily and exceeded the target in 2004, reaching 96%. However, in 2006 it fell dramatically to the lowest level of 92%. From then on, punctuality improved sharply, surpassing the target again and reaching nearly 97% in 2009.
