The bar chart provides information about different kinds of transport commonly used in 2014 by three major cities: New York, Sydney and Hong Kong.
Overall, it can be seen from the chart that there is no major form of transport for all cities, but rather popular transport modes vary depending on each group and interests in each city.
In 2014, the percentage of people in Sydney who travelled by either driving cars or using taxis was 68%, making this the most common type of transport in the city. While walking was the second most popular mode of transportation after personal vehicles, there was a large difference between these two figures. Only nearly one-fifth of the citizens in this city chose to walk as their main means of transportation.
Moving to Hong Kong, buses were the most popular mode of transport, selected by slightly over half of the population. Rail services were also favored in this city by nearly one-third of the residents preferred for their commutes. It was noticeable that both bus and rail services in Hong Kong dominated among the 3 cities which had much higher usage compared to Sydney and New York.
The figures for people who prioritized walking was nearly two-fifths of the overall population in New York and this type became the most widely used transportation method in this city in 2014. Ranked second among four types of transports in New York, one-third of people opted for private vehicles or taxi services. In comparison with all the above means, the use of other types of transport were the lowest in three cities, with below 6% of individuals in each city selecting them as their preferred mode of travel.
