The bar chart illustrates the places where people in the UK use the internet in four given years – 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2004.
Overall, it is clear that internet access at home has the highest percentage. For other places, there were no big changes as all of them were not above the 30%.
Looking first at internet accessed at home, having started at around 55% in 1998, the amount of internet usage declined modesty to 48% in 2000. There was an increase by 2% in 2002, after which it rose again to 55% in 2004. Meanwhile, people used small amount of internet in library with only 12% at the beginning. Despite a gradual growth to 18% in 2000, it decreased to 16% in 2002 and remained unchanged until the end of period.
In terms of the amount of internet surfed at work, despite remaining stable at 28% in 1998 and 2000, the figure declined significantly to 16% in 2004. Similarly, in college, the rate for internet accessed in college remained stable in first two years(1998 and 2000) with 20%. Despite rising steeply to approximately 25% in 2002, it fell to around 18% in 2004.
