The line graph illustrates the past figures and their future evaluations for the government expenditure as a percentage of GDP during 25 years – between 2000 and 2025 – on education, healthcare, as well as roads and railways.
Overall, the expenditure on healthcare will rise over time, while the opposite is true for the rest two sectors.
In 2000, the highest percentage of government spending(as a percentage of GDP) was allocated to the education sector(5%). The difference between the other two categories was not much, only 1% less. However, for the next 20 years the amount of money spent on categories such as “Education”, and “Roads and railways” started to decline steadily to 4% each. In the future, two figures are projected to see a further decline to well under 4%.
The spending on healthcare stood at the same percentage level as that of roads and railways in 2000. Nevertheless, the figures for it started rising gradually to just under 7% 20 years after. The amount of money spent on healthcare is estimated to rise further to around 7.5% in the next five years.
