The line graph shows data about the variation of birth and death rates in New Zealand since 1901 and forecasts the trend until 2101.
The death rate showed a fluctuating trend, while the birth rate experienced a significant rise.
In 1901, the birth rate was around 20,000 and then unsteadily increased to the peak of more than 65,000 in 1961. From the following year to 2030, it went up and down between 65,000 and 50,000 and then gradually declined to reach 45,000 at the end of the period.
On the contrary, in early 1901, the death rate (8,000 was lower than the birth rate. However, during then and 2001, it climbed to nearly 28,000 with a little bit of rise and fall. After that, it experienced a rapid surge to around 58,000 in 2061, exceeding the birth rate in 2041 and reaching almost 55,000 at the termination of the period, which was higher than the birth rate at that time.
