The figure illustrates the number of international migration, both immigration and emigration, to Canada in a span of 10 years, between 2005 and 2015.
Overall, the migration trends increased from 2005 to 2009 and remained the same level until 2015. The net migration fluctuated a little but remained around 150 and 200 thousands over the period.
Immigration and Emigration graphs are paralleled to each other. However, in 2005, they started at different point. Immigration started around 450 thousands, higher than emigration trend which was just below 300 thousands at that time. They both raised slightly in 2006 and dropped around 250 thousands from their normal state. They experienced a rapid growth from 2007 to 2009. Immigration trend grew from approximately 460 thousands to 575 thousands, while emigration trend grew from 300 thousands to 400 thousands. After that, from 2009 to 2015, they fluctuated a little but still around their same level.
On the other hand, net migration trend stayed around 150-170 thousands from 2005 to 2010. And jumped to 200 thousands in 2011. The chart fluctutaed a little and was approximately at 170 thousands in 2015.
