The line graph illustrates the number of females and males who smoked cigarettes jn the UK from 2011 to 2021. Overall, the figures for cigarette consumption declined significantly in both genders. It is also clear that males consumed more cigarettes than their female counterparts in all years.
Regarding males, around 4 million of them consumed cigarettes in 2011, which indicates that cigarette consumption was quite high among men. Following 2 years, this figure dropped noticeably to around 2.5 million. Afterwards, the figures for male smokers fluctuated mildly until 2019. After this year, the number of men who smoked cigarettes declined further to around 1.2 million in 2021. These changes show that cigarette consumption decreased noticeably among men and fewer males were addicted to this substance.
Similarly, the figures for female smokers followed a downward trend. In 2011, smoking was quite common among females as just above 3.5 million used cigarettes. The number of female smokers also decreased noticeably between 2011 and 2013 to just below 1 million. Over the years, the figure for female smokers fluctuated until 2019, after which it declined further to around 0.8 million. Similar o males, women also gave up smoking and fewer females were addicted to cigarettes by the end of the period.
