The given line chart illustrates the proportion of people residing in Australia who have origins from Asia, the United Kingdom, and other areas between 1976 and 2006.
In general, it is evident that the total rate of the population in Australia who originated from different areas saw a significant increase over 30 years. The figure for Australians originating from the UK had a dramatic decrease, whereas the opposite was true for the figure for Australians from Asian areas.
In the first year, the proportion of the population in Australia who were born in the UK topped the list at about 14%, roughly five times higher than figure for those who were born in Asia at nearly 3%. Compared with the figure for the latter, that of other regions was significantly higher at around 11%. By the year 2001, the UK had a downward trend to the bottom, lower than the percentage of people living in Australia who were born in other regions.
In 2011, after a remarkable decrease, the figure for residents in Australia who were born in the United Kingdom fell to the lowest point at 5%. However, the figure for the immigrants from Asia reached the peak at 15% and there was a slight decline to about 13% in the figure for immigrants from other regions.
