Overall, what stands out on the graph is the remarkable growth in streaming music sales, which surpassed all other sales of music. Notably, sales from downloads and CD dropped noticeably, while vinyl music sales was the least popular type of music for purchasing in ech given year, despite experiencing an upward trend.
With regards to the upward trends in 2011, just under a billion dollars worth of music was sold via online streams, which had more than doubled by 2015. While this type of sales commenced with the one of the lowest purchasing rank, at about $1 million. It then surpassed any categories with a drastic increase for the rest of the given period, marking it as the leading category. However, vinyl music sales were lowest in all years in question regardless of a half-a-billion-dollar rise until 2015, before being remained nearly unchanged by 2018.
In contrast, starting off at approximately $3 billion in the sales of downloads and CD, with a dominance of the former. While there was the most striking change, the gap between them stood at almost the same as the initial, decreasing moderately to 1 billion and just under 1 billion dollars in 2018, respectively.
