Overall, there was an increase in the amount of access to up-to-date technology, with the most drastic changes can be seen in the figures for DVD player. In addition, CD player had the highest percentage since 1994 until 2007.
The percentage of people using a CD player in 1994/1995 was about 45% and it continued to rise gradually to reach its peak, approximately 85% in between 2005 and 2006, before it started to drop slightly in 2008. Similarly, in 1998/99, about 10% of UK people had an internet connection, with a sharp rise to 65% throughout 10 years.
The percentage of people who used a mobile phone in the UK started at about 18% in 1996/97, after which, it rose to more than 41% in 1999. After some fluctuations, it continued to increase to about 80% in 2005, before leveling off until the end of the period. Although people only began to use a DVD player since/in 2002, the percentage of it grew dramatically throughout the period, surpassing that of people accessing a CD player from 2007 onwards.
