Overall, consumption of chicken increased significantly while other kinds of meat were less consumed at the end of the period.
Initially, beef accounted for the largest consumption at around 220 grams for everyone per week. The figure had a sharp decrease at 1984 to about 160, followed by a slight increase for nearly 10 grams and then gradual decrease till the end at above 100 grams. The consumption of lamb started from approximately 150 grams per person weekly, and decreased till 1999 to nearly 60 grams, when a slight rise occurred for about 10 grams.
The pattern for fish was flatter, declining from slightly above 50 to slightly below 50 until 2004. In contrast, chicken had seen a significant increasing period, of which the consumption started at below 150 in 1979, overtook lamb soon after, rose quickly, especially from 1999 to 2004, till around 250 grams.
