The line graph depicts the total intake of three different spreads (margarine, low fat and reduced spreads, and butter) during 1981 and 2007.
Overall, margarine and butter became less and less consumed over the period. It is apparent that consumers started to enjoy low fat and reduced spreads from the year it came out to the final years.
Now, turning to the detail, butter used to be the most favoured spread back in 1981, with more than 140 grams of consumption. However, this began to drop drastically throughout the given period and by 2007, merely 50 grams of intake was witnessed.
Margarine, similarly, had around 90 grams of intake in 1981 and remained stable at exactly 100 grams for five years only to fall down substantially to 40 grams in 2007. In contrast, low fat and reduced spreads which started later at 1996, saw a significant increase, peaking at above 80 grams of intake. It then experienced a slight drop in 2007, with around 70 grams of consumption.
