Overall, despite the fact that people who visited the USA for business were lower at the start than holiday visitors, they reached the same level in 20 years time, followed by individuals who were in the country for meeting aims.

It is clear that, overseas came to visit the USA for three different purposes, such as holiday, business and meeting friends and relatives.

In 1989, about 6.5 million people spent their time relaxing in the USA. And this number remained the same two years later. Whereas in 1996, it reached the peak at 9 million individuals. In 8 years time it gradually decreased to the same number as in the beginning, but then rose to 8 million in 2009. Regarding visitors for business, who were 5 million at the start, plunged a million lower in a year time, and rose steadily following 19 years.

By contrast, just under 4 million people came to the USA in order to meet friends and relatives in 1989. Continuously, the number reached the point where holiday visitors were at the start, at 6.5 million.
