The line graph illustrates how many shops were closed and opened in one country from 2011 to 2018.
Overall, the trend for openings was downward for the period, even though it had the highest number of shops from the beginning. Despite the fact that closures dramatically bottomed out in 2015, in the end it returned to the almost the same number of stores as at the start.
In 2011 openings were nearly 8,500, however it significantly dropped to 4,000 in 2012. Over the next two years the number of shops that were opened rose to about 6,000. Closures started from nearly 6,400 shops and in the following three years slightly fluctuated. In 2014 closures had almost the same number of shops as openings.
In 2015 closures hit the lowest point over the whole period, and it was just under 1,000 shops. Over two last years it leveled off and in 2018 it was almost 5000. Openings had a marginal slump in 2015, only 4000 of shops were opened. In next two years it plateaued, and at the end of the period it decreased slightly to 3,000 shops.
