The bar chart provides information about the proportion of Australian boys and girls participating in 4 different after-school sport activities in 2010. Overall, while the majority of boys attended to the football, that of the girls was netball. Unlike this comparison, there was a minor gap in the percentage of participation in swimming and basketball. Notably, the share of girl pupils who did not attend any sports was higher compared to boys.
Regarding boys’ participation, football recorded the highest figure at 20%, followed closely by swimming at approximately 13%. The figures for boys who did not participate in sports and basketball were nearly similar, at around 4% and 6%, respectively, whereas netball ranked last at just 2%.
As for the percentage of girls’ participation, despite having the lowest preference for netball for boys, netball witnessed the highest proportion of girls’ preference, with an estimated 17% attending. Swimming stood second, with about 16% of girls attending. Meanwhile, the shares for other sports – basketball, football, and no sports – were considerably lower, accounting for 7%, 4%, and 5% of participation, respectively.
