The line chart illustrates the proportion of households in the UK with five different modern services in the span of five years from 1997 to 2001. Overall, the percentage of households using CD player, telephone, computer, Internet and DVD player had soared significantly over the period.
Firstly, the percentage of using Internet to do housework was the smallest in all kinds of technology at 10% in 1997. However it had a slight increase in 1990 and remained stablein 1990, at 20%. Using Internet for households jumped impressively in the last two years. In the first two years, the proportion of homes using telephone stabilized at 20%, but it had a considerable increase afterwards, finished at 65% in 2001. The number of families using DVD player is 27% of them in 1997. This percentage plunged modestly in 1998, at 15%. Although it rocketed quickly afterwards at 50% in 2001, it was the smallest number of households using separate kinds of technology.
In the first years, both computer and CD player were two services being using the most by households at 40 % and 60% respectively. Using this two technology had increased in the next four years. Remarkable, using CD player had a peak of 80% of households in 2001.
