Overall, most of the countries witnessed an upward trend in the rate of part-time workers, except in Northern Ireland. Besides, England and Wales both had the highest proportion thourghout the period, while the remaining figure quite low.
In 1980, there was only Wales, where had more than 30% of workers did part-time jobs. Following the rank, England reached roughly 25% of part-time employees during 1980. At the same time, Northern Ireland and Scotland had quite low rates of these workers, with approximately 15% and slightly over 10%, respectively.
After three decades, the percentage of part-time workers in Wales had a slight rise from roughly 30% to around 35% in 2010, and still reached the highest point among the four chosen nations. England witnessed a remarkable rise over the period, which was from approximately 25% to the similar rate of Wales in 1980. Scotland had the same trend, with 20% in 2010, which was nearly double in 1980. In contrast, the rate of part-time employees decreased from 15% in 1980 to around 13% in 2010.
