The data illustrate the proportion of different age groups who visited the museum at least once a year from 1980 to 2010.
Overall, it is clear that despite a slight decline, the older generation continued to favor museums the most, while the youngest age group showed the least interest. In fact, people aged 25 to 49 followed similar patterns throughout the period.
From 1980, the proportion of those aged over 50 remained relatively stable, with a modest rise from around 48% to nearly 50%. However, this was followed by a gradual decline to nearly 42%, yet it remained the leading group. At the same time, the proportion of teenagers visiting the museum initially accounted for approximately 20% and soared to 25% after a decade. Although this pattern plateaued for 15 years, it then decreased back to approximately 22%.
In terms of adults aged 25-34 and 35-50, these age groups followed a nearly identical trend throughout the 30 years. Starting at roughly 35-36%, they gradually declined to approximately 29% in 1990, before recovering to approximately 35% and 39%, respectively. Both categories remained stable until 2010 before experiencing a slight drop.
