The line graph illustrates how the proportion of the Australian workforce in five industries changed between 1962 and 2012.
Overall, while there were opposite patterns in the figure for service, manufacturing and agriculture, the lowest figure, mining, experienced minor changes throughout the period. Notably, the workforce in the service field represented a much greater proportion than any other brackets.
The percentage of the employment of service industry started at over a half, which was doubled that of the second position belonging to manufacturing. Afterward, the statistic rose steadily, reaching roughly 80 percent in the last year. In contrast, the mining segment, hovered around minor percentage and peaked at 2 percent in 1982 and 2012, making it the least attractive industry.
The two remaining industry, namely manufacturing and agriculture, shared the same pattern in which both experienced a downward trend. Manufacturing was the higher figure, which commenced at roughly 25 percent and witnessed a moderate decline to 10 percent after remaining consistent in the first ten years. A more marginal drop was seen in the proportion of workforce in agriculture, which started at only ten percent and ended the period with the percentage decreasing by half.
