The given graph compares the percentage of household internet access between urban/suburban and rural in particular European country in the period of 15 years, from 1999 to 2004.
Overall, both figures witnessed a stable growth with urban/suburban household’s percentage being always higher. Also, the gap between two figures is slightly shorter throughout the studied period.
In terms of the figure for the first 3 years, about 15% of urban/suburban households accessed the internet, while that of rural areas stood at only 3% in 1999. 1 year later, both figures doubled remarkably, reaching 30% and 6% respectively. The gap between two figures extended in 2011 when urban/suburban reported 40% of households using the internet while rural accounted for only one-fourth of urban/suburban’s percentage.
Regarding the remaining figures, the growing pace of urban/suburban’s percentage seemed to slow down in the next three years with the annual growth of 2%, starting with 50% in 2002 and ending with 54% in 2004. Having experienced the same trend, however, rural households’ access to the internet saw a significant increase. In 2002, about 15% of rural households accessed the internet, this percentage rose steadily by 10% each year, reaching its peak at 35% by the end of the studied period.
