The line graph illustrates the changes to a particular nation’s population from 1960 and its prediction to 2040.
Overall, the number of residents is divided in three different age groups with the most dominant being the 15-64 year olds despite some slight fluctuations in the beginning of the period. The figure for the 0-14 year olds experienced a general decline while that for the remaining group exhibited a reverse trend.
Concerning the group of 15-64 year olds, the proportion started at around 55% before rising to just over 60% within 10 years. In 1990, this figure stayed intact compared to it in 1970 despite of slight drop to under 60% by 1980. From this point to the year 2020, the percentage showed a steady decrease. This figure is expected to continue falling in 2040, reaching the lowest pont at around 45%.
Similarly, the proportion of the 0-14 year olds declined throughout the period but more steadily. It began with 30% and then dropped marginally to about 26% by 1970. After staying unchanged in 1980, it decreased significantly by approximately 10% in 2000. From this point onward, the percentage is predicted to fall gradually. In contrast, the figure for the remaining age group showed an upward trend, with the off-level at 16% in the first decade before increasing steadily to nearly 40% by 2025. This proportion is expected to rise continuously in the future.
