The age group 15-64 made up the greatest of the population during the beginning and the end period. In 1960, the percentage of people aged from 15-64 comprised around 57%, after that it had fluctuated over the next three years before starting to drop slowly, reach 50% in 2020. It is estimated that the proportion of aged 15-64 will decrease continue to reach 45% at the end of the period. A significant decrease was seen in the number of people aged from 0 to 14. In 1960, this aged group accounted for 30%, then over the next decade it dropped by 5% and remained stable for the next 10 years. Over the next 40 years it declined slightly from 20% in 1990 to 11% in 2020 and it is expected to reach 10% by the year 2040.
In 1960, around 15% of the population were people aged over 65. This figure then levelled off in 1970, whereas the percentage of people over 65 increased moderately over the next five decades, reaching 35% in 2020. However, the number of people over 65 is predicted to reach 45% by the end of this period.
