The line graph displays the share of individuals, who are 65 and older between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries. Overall, it is noticeable that the amount of old people increased over the given time period. Additionally, Japan accounted for the lowest share among all the other countries, however, showed a sharp increase after 2020. Consequently, in 2040 Japan illustrated the biggest number of people aged 65 and over. Considering the USA and Sweden, it is obvious that they showed pretty similar results during the time period.
Looking at the figures of the USA and Sweden, it is clear, that they started in 1940 accounting for under 10%. Afterwards, their proportions began to rose, so that an amount of around 15% in 1980 can be seen. However, from 1980 their results showed a significant difference with Sweden climbing to the point of around 20%, while the USA was fluctuating and remained almost unchanged. Finally, from 2020 both of the countries illustrated an increase, so that in 2040 an amount of around 25% in both can be observed.
Considering the third country, which is Japan, it can be noticed that from the beginning in 1940 it accounted for the lowest proportion, around 5%. Afterwards, a slight decrease during the next 40 years can be seen. However, from 2000 the share of Japan started to rise. Moreover, from 2020 a sharp increase can be observed. As a result, by 2040 Japan reached the top among all the countries, showing the proportion of just over 25%.
