The line graph illustrates how the population aged 65+ percentage in three different countries-Japan, Sweden, USA- has changed since 1940, and presents future trends untill 2040.
Overall, its clear that, all countries experienced a general growth in its population of 65+ proportion and is predicted to continue. Notably, Japan, which initially had the lowest proportion, is forecast to surpass both Sweden and the USA by 2040.
Looking into more details, the number of older people in USA and Sweden stood at between 5 and 10 percentage in the initial year and American older people number was higher than the that of Sweden, making a difference of about 2%. Next 6 decades these figures increased steadily to 15% and about 13% respectively, showing the similar trend. The number of older people in USA declined slightly, While that of Sweden saw a moderate rise of 7%, surpassing the former figure between1980 and 2020. Both figures are predicted to grow further with respective proportion of roughtly 23 and 25, peaking in their trend untill 2040
In contrast, Japan’s older population percentage declined slightly from 5% in 1940 to about 3% by 1980. Following this, the figure began to increase, reaching 7% by 2020. Then that of Japan is estimated to skyrocket to around 27% for the next 2 decades, becoming eventually the dominant figure in this trend.
